FoodStorm is a unique cooking programme developed by sKids, with support from the New Zealand Heart Foundation for children aged 5 – 13. FoodStorm teaches kids how to cook as well as the fundamentals of nutrition. Research has proven that children who can cook make better food choices.
Armed with a colourful kid-safe cooking kit we deliver the FoodStorm experience within our programmes.
With FoodStorm being such a mobile programme, it can also be delivered during school hours as part of the curriculum. It is made up of a series of themed modules, which includes several international recipes.
Key learning outcomes include; Safety, Nutrition, Cooking skills, Creativity and Resourcefulness.
Opportunities through FoodStorm
Through our relationship with New Zealand Chefs Association, sKids kids also have the opportunity to participate in the annual Kiwi Kids Can Cook competition (New Zealand’s National Kids Cooking Competition). Our kids are strong competitors, as they have all participated in FoodStorm.
To underline the importance of healthy eating, recipes have been developed to meet Heart Foundation guidelines. With recipes such as Kaboom Curry, Surfie Fish Pie and Colonel Cluck’s Scrambled Eggs, kids who participate will also have a blast cooking up a FoodStorm with sKids.
