Inside the house:

  • Play hopscotch inside – use tape to make a hopscotch.
  • Have a dance party!  Turn up the music and get moving.
  • Have hallway races – Tape up a piece of party streamer for the winners to run through.
  • Play Simon Says – make it as interactive as possible.
  • Have an indoor snowball fight – crumble up pieces of paper.
  • Set up an indoor bowling game – use plastic cups, and any type of ball (tennis, large soft ball, mini bean bag).
  • Keep a balloon off the floor using a fly swat, a rolled up newspaper (or your hand).  You can make up some basic passing and catching games to go with it.
  • Play Hide and Seek inside.
  • Make a pillow pile and let the kids jump into it (be sure there are enough pillows to be safe).
  • Have an indoor scavenger hunt.
  • Play Follow the Leader and move from room to room doing different movements such as hopping and jumping.
  • If it’s impossible to get children away from the TV, encourage them to do star-jumps, sit-ups, or push-ups during the ad breaks!

Outside the house:

  • Go on a winter hike.
  • Enrol your child in a group class such as dancing, gymnastics, martial arts, or their local sKids programme for active after school play.
  • Visit a local indoor pool.
