JP is the successful owner-operator of sKids Breakfast Club, After School Care, and Holiday Programmes at both Devonport and Grey Lynn School.
With a background in the HR & Legal professions, JP jumped at the chance to be inspired daily by children and the dynamic sKids team in 2013.
Our Vision is to be the childcare and programme provider-of-choice to our school community
Our Mission is to inspire our people and children to thrive and grow.
Having developed successful programmes at Grey Lynn School with her very capable team, she felt it was time to expand her horizons. When she was approached to restart sKids Devonport, JP and her husband moved into the community within a month. With the support of Principal Melinda Bennett, sKids Devonport reopened in February 2015.
JP’s career highlights so far include: (1) getting involved in the sKids Systems Committee which brought out AIMY, the OSCAR industry’s first parent portal and booking system; (2) bringing three very excited Devonport children to the TV One Breakfast show to announce our FoodStorm cooking programme; and (3) serving families in the Grey Lynn and the North Shore Peninsula by caring for their children while the adults pursue their careers and interests.
JP is now on the sKids National Events and Marketing committee and recently joined the Entourage programme, a school for young entrepreneurs. She now lives in Devonport with her husband, who is enjoying the ferry commute to his work in the CBD.
Jacinta is an only child but she has younger cousins who see her as a ‘big’ sister. With a background in the hospitality and customer service industries, Jacinta wanted a challenging yet rewarding career. Since joining sKids in September 2016, she discovered a passion for working with the younger generation and helping children grow and develop. Jacinta has been accepted to pursue her studies in teacher aiding and will be commencing her work placement at both Devonport Primary and Vauxhall School in 2017. When not working, Jacinta enjoys music, arts and crafts, socialising with her friends, reading and keeping active. Her favourite colours are blue, pink, black and red. Jacinta believes everyone is a superhero in their own unique way but if she could be one she would be superwoman so she could fly and rescue those in danger!
My name is Gabby Jarvis. I am 19 years old and have lived in Belmont, Auckland my whole life. I went to Belmont Primary, Belmont intermediate and Carmel College. For the last two years I have been studying psychology at university but this year after working with sKids I have decided to become a primary school teacher, my degree starts in 2017 and will finish in 2020. Coming from a family with 20 first cousins, I have been growing up taking care of them since I am the fifth oldest cousin in the family. Three of my aunties are teachers and we say it runs in the family. I joined Skids only two months ago and have absolutely fallen in love with the company. Not only is the team amazing to work with but the children outshine everything else. My favourite colour is light blue like the sky on a beautiful day. If I could be any superhero I would want to be a Wonder Woman because there’s nothing more wonderful than being a woman.
Prior to joining the sKids Devonport family, Steffi coached children in athletics, football and netball. This is because she has a strong sporting background and currently plays club football and competes in athletics. Steffi really likes to get children involved in sports and give something new a try. “Teaching the children new skills and watching them gain confidence is something that I am very passionate about!” Steffi is in her final semester studying psychology and employment relations at Auckland University where she aspires to be a child psychologist or health psychologist.

We can’t recommend sKids highly enough. The staff are fantastic and our daughter loves the sessions and often talks about the teachers and other children at home. She has made a lot friends in the programme. She even loves that they do homework at sKids, because it means she doesn’t have to do it later at home. Initially we tried sKids because being on-site, it was convenient and our daughter could join Skids at 4pm when other after school activities finished. However, it soon became obvious the programme was a better fit for our daughter. The key things in the programme which we love are the structure, the focus on developing social skills and the individual attention each child receives. Together these things have resulted in our daughter being less tired and better behaved, and she has stopped complaining about being bored, which was an issue with her previous programme.
We have been really impressed by the responsiveness of the teachers who are really attuned to the children and what is going on at school. JP is constantly adapting the programme to accommodate the particular interests of the children, or to work in with what is being taught in school. No other programme is this dynamic and while we initially thought too much proximity to school might be a bad thing, it has turned out to be a real advantage. We have been equally impressed with the before school programme which we’ve used on occasion, and the holiday programme which our daughter now regularly attends.
– Richard & Danae Begg, October 2015
“We tried sKids because we were dissatisfied that our kids (5 and 7) were watching rather a lot of television at the alternative (very busy) after-school care option.
We couldn’t be happier with sKids! The program is structured and innovative (and TV-free), and our boys have a lot of fun there. There is physical play, the homework gets done, and then there’s an interesting project each day. The teachers are young and fun and obviously love what they do, and they work hard to teach social skills as well, with a star-based rewards system for behaviour that certainly pushes our kids’ buttons!
It is so much more than a babysitting service, and whenever I sign the boys up for a session I am confident I am giving them an enriching afternoon. It’s practical too – it is based at the school, and has a new internet booking system that is very user-friendly. We also put the boys in for a solid week in sKids’ high-quality holiday program, and they loved every day.”
– Sharon, Devonport, September 2015
“Everything you want from your before and after school care – structured, nurturing, educational, inspiring, and fun! JP and Austin are a great team who really keep the kids stimulated. Only problem is trying to get them to leave at the end of each day!”
– Helen Skelton, August 2015
“Matthew was very excited this morning to have another sKids session as he enjoys it so much. Thank you!”
– Rachel Kirk, May 2015
